Already the fourth mission to Ouagadougou notwithstanding the insecurity mounting in Burkina but also neighboring countries obliging the team to avoid as much as possible public places and avoid travelling outside the capital.
Veterans ,Ton van Loon Karin Hofland and Rob Steur , and newcomers Aad Slingerland and Jorgo Lambrou operated long days during these weeks ,several complicated cases were treated and in the end 27 kids were back on their feet or better said will be once the plaster removed and reeducation done.
The Don Orione Centre got finally the finance to construct a small operation block from Misereor ( Germany ) and although it will take probably a year or so to finish ,the first stones are being laid.
From 8 till 12 March KDD ( Dick van der Schaaf and Ton de Rijk ) visited the Centre Handicapé Bamako Mali in order to investigate whether we can contribute somehow in their Ponzetti based program to prevent clubfeet .
The centre is already collaborating with Miraclefeet but dr Almamy Kire (who operated 2 weeks with the Dutch team is Ouagadougou in March 2018 ) would like to have a team over once a year for complicated interventions.
Equipment is not fully operational at this moment thus we are studying how to intervene with a minimal investment in anesthesist equipment.
Dr Kire and van der Schaaf consulted around 35 patients and a list of 15 children is already established.
Ka Dounia Dia thanks all volunteers for their generous time and professional contribution not without forgetting the dynamic Burkina Be team of Paul VI and our generous host padre Riccardo.
