KDD VISITS IVORY COAST FROM
10 FEBRUARY TO 22 FEBRUARY 2014

The goal of the first KDD (Ka Dounia Dia = Celebrate Life) mission to Ivory Coast (West Africa) was twofold: orthopaedical surgery intervention in the Don Orione Bonoua Center and prospecting the possibilities of setting up orthopaedic child surgery in the North of Ivory Coast in the near future.

The Dutch medical team of the St. Maartenskliniek in Nijmegen (Jan van Loon, Dick van der Schaaf, Jenny Verhagen and Stefan Jurhus), in collaboration with the local Ivorian team of Dr. Monsea conducted surgery on 14 children from Ivory Coast and Mali, including complicated clog feet, X and O legs.

KDD visited in the North of Ivory Coast the Baptist Hospital in Ferkessedougou and the Public Hospital of Korhogo. Neither of these hospitals can perform in their actual status the surgery which KDD wants to target for the children. The possibilities for KDD in the future is either to invest in medical equipment in Ferkessedougou or study setting up a new entity with Don Orione in Korhogo, close to the small orthopaedical physiotherapy.

The total intervention cost of this mission is 7.500 euro. A next mission is scheduled latest within a year, from which moment KDD will intervene twice a year.
KDD would like to express their deep appreciation to the professional team of the St. Maartenskliniek Nijmegen and the Director Father Riccardo of Don Orione Bonoua and his staff.
